2006 Study of 2,000+ Women Shows
Green Tea Protects Against Breast Cancer
Participants: 1,009 female patients age 20-87
years with breast cancer were compared to 1,009 age-matched healthy controls
Where: Southeast China
Type of study: Case-control
What happened: Information on duration,
frequency, quantity, preparation and type of tea consumption, diet and lifestyle
were collected in face-to-face interviews using a validated and reliable
questionnaire.
After adjusting for potential confounders, green tea consumption was
associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer. Specifically, those who drank
an average of 1/2 to 2/3 cup of green tea per day reduced their risk by 41%.
And even those who drank very small amounts of green tea (less than 1/4 cup per
day) decreased their risk by 13%.
Researchers' conclusion: "We conclude that
regular consumption of green tea can protect against breast cancer."
