Green Tea Polyphenols and Catechins Have
Anti-Tumor Effect
Study description: Lab animals were deliberately
injected with human breast cancer cells, then given plain water, water
containing green tea polyphenols,
or water containing the green tea catechin EGCg (epigallocatechin gallate).
Type of study: Animal
What happened: Both the green tea polyphenols
and EGCg delayed the appearance of breast tumors, reduced their size, and encouraged cancer cells to
"commit suicide" (apoptosis), compared to animals who received plain
water.
Researchers' conclusion: The results suggest
that green tea polyphenols
and EGCg have anti-tumor properties.
