Green Tea Polyphenols Inhibit Bacterial
Attachment to Teeth
Study description: This study was
designed to find out if green
tea polyphenols could prevent the bacteria that cause cavities from adhering to
the teeth. For the study,
the polyphenols were mixed with a Streptococcus mutans strain on saliva-coated discs
that were used to test the bacteria's ability to stick.
Type of study: "Test-tube"
What happened: The green tea polyphenols not
only kept the bacteria from sticking, they also inhibited plaque formation when
the bacteria were combined with sugar.
