Green Tea Sends Energy Where It's
More Likely to Be
Burned
Study description: Instead of drinking water,
lab animals were given green tea for 3 weeks.
Type of study: Animal
What happened: Drinking green tea reduced the
weight of the animals' adipose (fat) tissue without any change in food or water
intake. It also
significantly reduced cholesterol and free fatty acid levels.
Researchers' conclusion: Green tea has
"anti-obesity actions." It may work by interfering with the ability of fat
storage tissues to take in glucose, while increasing glucose uptake in muscle
tissues. This has the effect of sending energy to parts of the body where it is
more likely to be burned rather than stored.
